
GATAMÉ
Born in Japan, Joichi Hirao arrived in 2016 on invitation of Nicolas Gill, two-time Olympic medalistand president of Judo Canada as a sparring partner of Canada's national team and specifically to train with Antoine Valois Fortier also an Olympic medalist.
Joichi founded the Gatame Judo Club in 2019 as the continuation of his grandfather's Dojo in Shiga, Japan.
Gatamé has adult in children programs.
Gatamé's children's program draws on Joichi's experience as a top level competitor as well as on his traditional japanse values to develop in children, concentration, discipline, self-confidence.
The adult program emphasizes self-defense, confidence building and fitness through judo in order to create a positive impact on several aspects of an adult's life, in particular healthy lifestyle , professional and emotional stress.

In 1994, at 6 years old, Joichi began judo in the dojo founded by his grandfather, the SEISHINKAN.
Satrting 2011, Joichi works as a professional competitor under instructor Hidehiko Yoshida, 6th Dan who defeated Royce Gracie via choke in a UFC fight.
In 2015, Joichi moved to Montreal at the invitation of Nicolas Gill, silver medalist at the Olympic Games in Sydney and president of Judo Canada to be the training partner of Antoine Valois-Fortier, the Canadian hope.
Joichi participates in the development of Antoine Valois-Fortier for the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 and for the world championship in Tokyo in August 2019, where Antoine Valois-Fortier won the Bronze medal.
In 2017, Joichi taught Judo in Montreal under Hiroshi Nakamura, 9th Dan and former head coach of the Canadian national team.
In 2018, Joichi becomes the happy father of a little girl.
